Smith was very excited and delighted by the overall win. We had a strategy going in of trying to stay in a tight pack because we knew Raleigh Charter had some guys who were going to be fast, but we knew we could have our top five finish before their top-five - and that’s exactly what we did,” said Smith. Freshman Jacob Gallant (17:36.08) crossed the finish line just a half-step behind Freeman for a 22nd-place finish, while fellow freshman Corbin Lanowitz (18:15.06) secured the state championship with a 48th-place finish. Junior James Warren led the way in 9th place with a time of 17 minutes, 4.32 seconds, while fellow juniors Logan Carter ( 17:15.34) and Blake Freeman ( 17:36.02) finished 13th and 21st, respectively.
